Are you interested in progressing youth healthcare access and reproductive justice?

The Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health seeks volunteers interested in working in a dynamic environment unlike any other. ICAH is an inclusive, creative organization that values teamwork and lives its values. As a volunteer, you will apply your data entry, office organizing, critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Organization Mission and Vision

The Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (ICAH) is a network of empowered youth and allied adults who transform public consciousness and build capacity of family, school, and healthcare systems to support the sexual health, identities, and rights of youth. We envision a world in which young adults in Illinois use their power to achieve health and well-being in their own lives and for their communities.

Our Core Issues include:

  • Youth-Friendly Healthcare

  • School Rights for All Youth (all genders and pregnancy/parenting statuses)

  • Justice for All Families, including young families

  • Sexuality Education

  • Abortion access for young people, including repealing Parental Notification of Abortion

  • Participatory Action Research around key issue areas

Volunteering Overview

ICAH can accommodate volunteers who will dedicate consistent hours of time each week and/or during events that are typically held in the evening or on weekends. We seek people who want to give their time to support a mission-driven, non-profit organization working to ensure that young people are safe, affirmed, and healthy. Experience using spreadsheets and word documents is required. CMS or database experience highly desired. Volunteers must have the ability to work well both in teams and independently. Volunteers are unpaid, but hours may count toward service requirements for most schools. ICAH is located in the Loop, although volunteer duties may take you outside downtown Chicago.

ICAH is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity or gender expression, age, religion, marital status, status as a qualified individual with a disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other status protected by applicable law. Interested candidates should speak with their school or university’s internship or field placement office to confirm that an internship with ICAH will meet their academic requirements.

Volunteer Project Descriptions

Data Entry/Filing

While this may sound somewhat mundane, these projects feel highly gratifying to complete! It’s a huge help when volunteers input vital information about our donors, participants, community partners, and other supporters into our database systems. This task requires the ability to enter information into our software. Files must be sorted and filed, and letters must be stamped.

Personalize letters, write addresses, assist in organizing lists/packets, apply postage, and possibly make deliveries to the post office.

If you love to search for information on health, communities, trends in local and national justice movements, or potential funders, this is the opportunity for you! We also need writers who can develop powerful prose.

Library/Office Organizing

The beautiful library in our shared space with the Chicago Freedom School requires some organizational improvement! We need volunteers to sort and categorize books. We also could use recommendations for improving our simple checkout system.

There are a variety of events that require volunteers for set-up, concessions, fundraising, and promotion.

ICAH’s Revolutionary House Party! - Sunday, August 13
Setup: Place chairs, tables, centerpieces, concessions etc. according to event needs
Stage: Support stage managers to staff performers
Concessions: Help sell popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones, etc.
Activity Stations: Photo booth, face painting, etc.
Clean-up: Packing up posters, concessions, materials, etc.

You can fill out our volunteer form by clicking the button above or by downloading this form. If you are a youth and choose to fill the form digitally, you will need to bring your parent or guardian's signature with you to your first volunteer shift.
