Training for Youth by Adults
ICAH is collaborating with Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) to implement the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI) and is involved in supporting the replication of the Teen Outreach Program curriculum and coordinating the Peer Health Ambassadors program.
The Teen Outreach Program (TOP), an evidence-based curriculum by Wyman, is a youth development program to improve life skills and increase community engagement & health. TOP is being implemented with 9th graders in select CPS schools, with an evaluation by Chapin Hall. ICAH is supporting TOP implementation by providing technical assistance to facilitators in TOP schools.
The Peer Health Ambassadors (PHA) program provides an opportunity for students to organize community projects and increase knowledge about nutrition & fitness, healthy relationships, and sexual health issues while building upon leadership skills. Students from TOP-implementing schools can participate in PHA as rising 10th graders. ICAH developed and wrote the PHA curriculum and trains & supervises PHA facilitators.
