Stop Abstinence-Only Program Funding // Illinois receives more than $10 million each year from the federal government for abstinence-only programs. Yet numerous studies have found such programs to be inaccurate, ineffective, and incomplete in educating our youth on crucial sexual health issues. In addition, abstinence-only programs promote a view of human sexuality and relationships that perpetuate gender stereotypes and homophobia. These programs fail to address critical issues, including sexual behavior, sexual orientation, and sexual violence or coercion. Tell your legislators to reject this money and start funding responsible sexual health education. |
Youth Activist Projects // ICAH does youth development work because we believe it is the most effective way to achieve policy objectives while building leadership and critical thinking skills among a new generation of advocates. Our goals are to develop youth as leaders, to help youth leaders make informed choices for themselves while influencing other youth and adults, and to engage youth in making accomplishments toward our policy objectives. Designed by young people interested in creating social change, youth activist projects help youth gain knowledge about sexual and reproductive health issues and develop leadership and advocacy skills. Current activities include the Condom Access Project, Reproductive Justice and Access Project, Sexually Transmitted Infection Project, and Young Parent Alliance. |
